Bottom line: The folks at Dr. Panda have delivered another winner with Dr. Panda’s Restaurant 3. Our versatile little friend is back in a fresh new café, ready to serve the residents of the Pandaverse. Culinary creativity abounds in this new app! This app is free to download and has enough free content to give you a great feel for what the app is like.

Reviewer’s note: I was performing this review using a TestFlight version of the app without the in-app purchases.
Dr. Panda is back and he’s brushing up on his culinary skills in Dr. Panda’s Restaurant 3. I know I’m always excited when a new (non-virtual) restaurant opens up in my world, so I would imagine our friends in the Pandaverse are pretty pumped about this new eatery.
This new restaurant is a diner-type place where customers can come right in and take a seat on a stool at the counter. Once seated, they are presented with a menu to choose from. The menu starts out with two entrées available, but there are multiple other ones that can be purchases with in-app purchases or earned as users level up.
After customers decide what they want, it’s off to the refrigerator to gather the ingredients. Customers are visible on a little screen and their reactions will help you choose which ingredients will please them most. It’s important to choose wisely, because in my experience the customers pay more if they are particularly pleased with the food. After choosing all of the ingredients, we can head on over to chop and prep things.
Next it’s time to cook the meal. Take the ingredients that you just prepped, cook them, and add them to your base meal that was chosen. After things are plated, a variety of spices and condiments become available to finish the meal before serving. While testing, I only had the stovetop available to me for cooking, but through in-app purchases you can open up things like a deep fryer and a barbeque oven that can really make things interesting.
Finally, we can serve our creation to the customer. After they eat, they each leave payment on the counter and (after cleaning up the space first) we can collect the coins. The more pleased the patrons are, the faster the coins accumulate. We can use them to purchase things like utensils and flowers for the diner, helping to create a certain ambiance (and also helping us to level up). Eventually, we could become master chefs!
What I liked:
- As always, the quality is top notch with this Dr. Panda app. They are always so nicely made.
- Creativity is the name of the game in this one.
- I do wish that there were a little more of an educational element with this app. Perhaps if some of the recipes had instructions to be followed or if you had to make change for the customers, it wouldn’t take away from the fun, but it would add a little challenge.
- I really felt like the leveling up was slow in coming and that it could be frustrating to kids.
Overall, Dr. Panda Restaurant 3 is another top notch app from the Dr. Panda developers. I know that some people might feel like it’s a bit redundant because two similar apps already exist, but it doesn’t lessen the quality of this one. It’s a fine stand-alone or starting app for those that don’t already have the others. 4.5 Stars.
