Bottom line: My Town: Haunted House is the latest app from the folks at My Town Games LTD, and I have to say it’s my favorite to date. Your child can play in a quite nice virtual house doing regular virtual house things…that is until they flip the switch. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

My Town: Haunted House is by far my favorite My Town app to date. On the surface it’s much like previous My Town apps that I’ve tried. The mechanics are the same, and to start out it appears to be a pretty standard virtual doll house. But once the spooky switch is flipped the whole house turns into an eerie version of itself. Available characters are a mix of average folks and maudlin monsters. It’s kind of like the Munster’s house up in here.
The spookless version of the house offers these fun things:
- A lovely sitting room with a piano and a warm fire. Characters can enjoy hot chocolate and toast marshmallows.
- A bright, airy bedroom. Characters can sleep in a four-poster bed or study using their laptop. Each character can choose cute, warm pajamas.
- Roomy, clean bathroom to prepare for the day or take a relaxing bath in the evening.
- A well-appointed kitchen to prepare yummy meals in.
- A hidden stairway to an attic sewing room.
But flip the switch and things become:
- A haunted parlor with spooky music and a bubbling cauldron.
- A bedroom decked out for a wizard with spell books and wands.
- A bathroom with overgrown vines and monstrous fixtures.
- A kitchen with a dragon powered oven and jars full of ingredients like eyeballs and bugs.
- A spooky craft room for creating witchy toys and things.

What I liked:
- I loved the fresh, fun feel this app has. The developers really seem to be finding their own niche.
- As always, I love stress-free, free play apps that encourage children to use their imaginations.
- We had so much fun comparing the normal rooms to the spooky rooms.
- If I could make just one change, it would be to add a spooky switch in each room. It was a little tedious having to go back to the parlor each time I wanted to switch. It would be fun to be able to flip back and forth in one screen for comparison.
- I had difficulty getting things to stick where I wanted them at times. This seems to be a persistent issue for me in all of the My Town apps.
Overall, My Town: Haunted House is a welcome addition to our My Town library. This one felt much more original and had some really great, well thought out details. For that, I'm going to give My Town: Haunted House a 4.5 Star Rating.
