Bottom Line: It's a great thing when developers of a five-star app continue to improve their already excellent app. And that's what the folks at Zap Zap Math keep on doing. Not only is their app a favorite among our SAFK's Top Picks, now they've gone and made the app available on Windows PC!

Our own Heather always has such great things to say about Zap Zap Math, so I was excited to give it a try myself. And let me tell you, Heather knows what she's talking about. This app offers a load of great content with the free download, covering math basics from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade. But where it really comes into it's own is with the premium content that is available with the subscription option. Normally I am not a fan of subscriptions in kid's apps, but I have to say that a Zap Zap Math subscription is well worth the $9.99/year cost.

I had the help of a first grade and a fifth grade tester at my house, and this app was broad enough to cover both of their needs. It's not often that I run across one educational app that both of my kids can use, so I was pretty stoked. It felt like they each had almost unlimited practice problems available and neither one lost interest quickly. The variety of games available play have something for students of all different levels and give them the opportunity to concentrate on skills that they need to strengthen.
The basic format of the subscription content is the same as the free games. Each game targets one skill area, and consists of five levels to master. As users complete levels they can earn stars to help unlock bonus rooms.
Parents and teachers will appreciate being able to set up accounts for multiple users to be able to track their progress. Kids can use devices at home or at school and their progress is tracked all in one place. The addition of a Windows PC version is particularly exciting (at least to me) when I think about classroom availability. Kids will be able to access Zap Zap Math content whether or not there are tablets available.
Heather had commented in her earlier reviews that her only complaint was not being able to mute the music. I've got to admit that I agree with her there, though it bothered me much more than either of my kids. We got around my issues by pulling out the headphones. I'd still love to see the developer add a little mute button, though.
If you've got elementary aged kids, please download the free version and give it a try. I think that many families will find that they want to take the plunge and get the subscription for access to all of the premium content. Still a strong five stars!
