Bottom Line: EduGurus Maths 3-5 is a strong app for UK/English kids, with a lot of content, an easy to use interface and well above average graphics and sound. It’s also a solid buy for U.S. users, but skip the UK/English money section. The only thing it's missing is a bit more fun for the target users.

What I liked:
- The app has lots and lots and lots of great content and at $1.99 (with no hidden in-apps!), it's is a good buy. The games include counting, number recognition and ordering, addition, subtraction, matching, doubling, halving, UK/English coins and money, time, shapes, sequences, colors, size, weight, distance and position.
-Learning is organized and sequential. For example, in the Fishing Fun section, the child must compete the size section, which is identifying bigger and smaller, before unlocking the height section (higher and lower) that is next.
- The interface should be very easy to use, even for a three to five year olds new to the iPad.
- Graphics and sound are strong, well above average. The app is narrated by a number of different voices (and the British accents aren’t too strong for American ears.)
- There is a free version to try before you decide if you want to get the full version.
- Supports the UK National Curriculum (and developed with UK schools). As far as other English speakers, kids need to learn the same numbers, time, etc. regardless of the country and I think it's worth the buy even if you just skip that section (or have your kids learn about another country's currency).
- There are social media links and all external links are password protected.
- There is an achievement screen and progress is easy for parents to check.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The app gets a bit repetitive for the target age. There isn’t much fun to be had in simply pressing right answer, which is most of the app. No fun surprises, animals with personality or laughs. Kids that target age like to laugh.
- -The feedback to a missed answer is solid but often unexplanatory. In other words, if the child is asked to identify six aliens and presses the four button, the app replies with the correct number but doesn’t count to indicate the correct number or give the child a second chance.
- The money section won’t help other English-speaking kids. There is an achievement screen, but without any bells or whistles. There are medals to earn, but many apps have superior rewards, such as fish to earn and put in an aquarium or an interactive sticker book. Not sure the target age care about medals much.
All told, EduGurus Maths 3-5 is well worth the $1.99 investment (and if that’s too much try the free version to be sure). It’s an app U.S. and other English-speaking parents should also consider while parents supplemental with their monetary system.
