Math Tricks is basically an app that offers multiple sets of multiple choice math quizzes. Users can choose from seven different difficulty levels and can choose how many questions they would like to see in each quiz (from 10 up to 100 at a time). Users can also choose whether each quiz will contain only one type of operation (add, subtract, multiply, or divide) or a combination of the four.

When a question pops up, users can perform the appropriate math application (in their head or on paper) and choose the correct answer. If the correct answer is chosen, the app moves on to the next question until the quiz is complete. At the completion of the quiz, users are shown their score along with time played and other statistics.

If a user happens to give an incorrect answer, the user is shown a box saying that the answer was incorrect and what the correct answer is. This box also gives a hint, or really just fakes users out with one. It literally says each time “Hint: Here is the hint”. There is really no need for a hint if they are already giving you the correct answer, I guess. It wouldn’t matter, because the app moves right on to the next question anyway. But this would be a far more beneficial app if the correct answer wasn’t immediately given and there actually were hints helping users figure out the problems and then having them actually be able to go back and figure out the correct answer.

Overall, Math Tricks offers up a handy way to practice math skills in an app form. It’s unfortunate that the ads are so frequent, though I guess that is how the developer is able to offer the app for free. I will say that I did not make the in-app purchase for lessons, so I cannot say whether or not that turns the ads off. As it stands, I’m giving this app 3 stars.
