The developer of Pokemon Go has released an iOS update for the popular app, which addresses the previously wide scope of Google permissions. It will no longer allow access to all of your data. In addition, there are added stability improvements to this incredibly popular game that has over 7.5 million downloads in the U.S. alone.
"Niantic Labs said yesterday that this seeming security problem was the result of an erroneous permissions request. Although it's possible that players on both iOS and Android were allowing full access to their accounts, only those on iOS could see the extent of the game's security permissions on their Google accounts."- Allegra Frank at Polygon.
Currently, this update is only available for iOS devices, but is expected for Android devices soon. Everyone chasing Pokemon, using iOS devices, go forth and update, then play happily and safely!
