It is pretty standard. A new iOS update comes out, and we just update. If not, we are prompted multiple times, until we finally give in. Conventional wisdom tells us to back up and everything will be fine. However, if you own a 9.7-inch iPad Pro, you may want to hold off on the latest Apple update, iOS 9.3.2. There are reports of some 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablets being rendered useless, or being "bricked" after updating to 9.3.2. This does not apply to all 9.7-inch iPad Pro devices, of course.
FromCult of Mac: "According to Apple’s support documentation, error 56 is a hardware issue, and it’s reminiscent of the dreaded error 53, which recently bricked a whole bunch of iOS devices that had previously been repaired by third-parties."
