Bottom line: Percent Bingo is a new release from the folks at Fluency Games that is designed to help students learn and strengthen their concepts of fractions, decimals and percentages. It’s a classic game with a learning twist.

Users start out in Percent Bingo by being able to design their own Bingo cards by dragging little Bingo balls with different percentages on them onto the spaces of a blank Bingo card. The game starts out with a 4 X 4 card (a 5 X 5 card is available as difficulty increases) and one of the spaces is filled with a free space. You can also choose to have the card autofill if you want to leave things to chance. Once the card is filled up, it is game time.
Gameplay is pretty straightforward. Users are presented with a Bingo ball with either a fraction or a decimal number on it and they must check their board to see if the corresponding percent is there. If it is, users can tap the percent and a paperclip is placed in the square just like a Bingo marker. If there is not a matching percent, just tap the Bingo ball and the number moves down onto the sheet of previously used amounts. There is a little countdown timer for each Bingo ball displayed. Play continues until Bingo is achieved. Don’t forget to tap on the Free Space to put a marker there!
Percent Bingo has adaptive play, meaning that it gets more difficult as a player exhibits greater fluency and speed. Users have the options of changing the board size and speed of play. Users can earn medals for accuracy in games as they continue to play. At any time, parents/teachers can access a profile report to check the progress of their little player.
What I liked:
- You know I love learning as play. This app takes a classic game and adds a learning twist.
- Gameplay is pretty intuitive, but instructions are available at any time if you need them. There are hints available, too. (I do have to note that there appear to be a limited number of hints, but we didn’t use more than one or two while playing so I am not sure what happens when they run out.)
- I think it would be a welcome change to have an option where the percentages become the Bingo balls and the squares have corresponding decimals and fractions.
- I’d like to see the ability to have multiple profiles to be able to keep the kids in families or classrooms separate.
Overall, we enjoyed this little math app at our house. It gives kids an effective way to practice converting fractions and decimals into percentages. I do think that they’ve left themselves a bit of room for improvement, though. I’m giving this a strong 4 stars.

The Easter Bunny brought Kelli's kids books in their baskets. If Kelli had known that was the deal she would have gotten a basket for herself. Smart Apps for Kids was paid a fee to review this app in a priority fashion.
