Bottom line: Nursery Rhymes for Kids is an interactive app targeted at preschool aged children. If you take advantage of the subscription service, you will have access to over 200 different nursery rhymes and educational songs and activities. Without the subscription, users can still enjoy two dozen free songs.
This app is free to download with in-app purchases for the subscription to open up all of the content.

When we open this app, the first thing we see are multiple categories to choose from. You can choose songs and verses that are anywhere from standard nursery rhymes to songs about birds, vegetables, or insects. There are holiday songs for when you are feeling festive and there are songs that can help your little one learn the alphabet. There are of course several well-known songs like Old MacDonald, but there are many unfamiliar and/or original songs across all of the categories.
Each song is accompanied by cute, if somewhat basic, artwork in bright, engaging colors. As your little one is enjoying each song, they can also find multiple interactive elements within the field of play to help keep them entertained.
Songs can be downloaded straight to your device so that the app can then be used without a Wi-Fi connection. This would be useful for car trips and such. Parents can now also set up a playlist that cannot be easily adjusted or exited by young players. This could be useful in setting up a long-term period of entertainment (like on road trips) and to help avoid a child repeating the same song over and over (and over) as they are sometimes inclined to do.
Watch this app in action here:
- I really love the playlist option. As a parent, I can tell you that I remember those days when I was hearing Wheels on the Bus for the 101st time, and I wish that I had been able to have a set line-up of songs that my angel couldn’t easily turn into a one-song concert.
- It’s music! I think that learning through music is one of the best ways to teach children new ideas and skills or to reinforce things that they have already learned.
- While the sheer volume of songs available (if you are willing to pay for a subscription) is impressive, I’m afraid that many of them are just not engaging enough to warrant revisiting them often.
- I have to say that I’m not crazy about the subscription service for this kind of app. If your child really, really is completely crazy about it, maybe then it would make sense to do this. But I just don’t like the idea of losing everything I had been paying for (with the exception of the already free songs) if I find that I need to drop the subscription for some reason.
Overall, I wanted to like this app more than I did. I love music and sing-a-long apps for kids. But with the exception of a handful of familiar songs, we didn’t really find ourselves singing along much at our house. I could be satisfied with just the songs that we already like if it weren’t for the need to pay for a subscription service. I’m afraid this app will just have too much competition from other single priced apps in the same category. 3.5 stars.
