All of the great things that made Emilie rank this app among the best of the best are still there. (Read all about them in Emilie’s original review here.) The Sight Word Adventure is still excellent practice for your kids who are learning sight words.
Now they’ve added four new mini games (for a total of ten) for even more options for practice. In the Construction game, you can build a tower of blocks to help the little mouse reach the cheese with the correct word on it. Silly Songs has users trying to remember the order of the lyrics of the band’s song. In Speed Racers, your kiddo can make a track by connecting the matching words on a set of dominos, then they can race the purple snail to finish line (“speed” is a matter of opinion on this one.)The last of the new games is a typing exercise that helps kids practice their spelling and even their typing skills.
Other improvements with this update include the addition of multiple accents when the kangaroo is speaking English. She now speaks with the user’s choice of American, British, or Australian accent.
The addition of a 26 page parent teacher handbook in the Grown-ups’ section really helps to make this app a first-rate teaching tool. This handbook really details how the app works and how it can be customized for each child. It also offers some activities away from the app to help extend the learning opportunities
If you’ve got a child who needs a bit of sight word practice, The Sight Word Adventure is a wonderful alternative to the usual, boring flashcards.

Description
Welcome to The Sight Word Adventure, a fun-filled game where children can learn to recognize, read, and write up to 320 sight words!
The beloved game of Hide-and-Seek is the central point of the app because it symbolically explores the cognitive skills necessary to remember sight words such as: visual attention, the morphology of the forest setting (i.e. the letters in a word), active listening, and of course visual memorization.
Developed with the The English Common Core State Standards in mind, this app will ensure that children have increased exposure to high frequency words that appear in text. These interactions will enable them to acquire the words into their long term memory. Our list was chosen based on Dolch’s and Fry’s compilations which account for over 50% of words that appear in printed text.
