Bottom Line: Eric and Bruce are back! This top pick app has been updated to include a winter mode along with some other improvements. Many landmarks are now labeled, and users have more control about moving the main characters around. This app is still a top pick in my book. I can’t wait to see where Eric and Bruce go next.
They’ve also added a free version so that you can give this great app a try.

Eric & Bruce Travel to Britain is back, and it's new and improved. When I first reviewed this lovely little app from developer Eric & Bruce Technology, I ranked it among our Top Picks. It’s still a favorite, and now it has an additional winter mode and some helpful labeling of landmarks. Plus there are many other little improvements along the way to discover. Eric & Bruce are now dragable, which can help speed up your trip and get you to where you want to go
The premise is the same — Eric and his little puppy pal, Bruce, are setting off on an historical exploration of Britain. We still get to visit the London Eye and Buckingham Palace, which are now helpfully labeled. In fact, all of the landmarks appear to be the same, just with the addition of identifying text for some of the major ones. In the winter mode, we still visit the same landmarks, only they are snow-capped and many of the details are Christmas-related.
The biggest change for me was the winter mode. Eric and Bruce now ride in a reindeer-drawn sleigh as snow drifts down around them. Many of our supporting characters are in their winter best, and the features are glistening with snow. Loch Ness is frozen over (so the monster has to ice skate, of course.)
The app itself is still quite well done, with some noticeable improvements. The ability to click on and drag Eric and Bruce around makes it easier to get them where you want them to be. If you want to take a visit to Stonehenge without stopping at Buckingham Palace, all you have to do is drag our little friends straight there.
What I liked:
- There are still lots of interactive elements. If possible, more of the individual elements have surprise actions when you tap on them.
- The characters are still delightful.
- While it is a big plus that they are now labeling some of the landmarks, I’d still like to see a little more in this respect. Rather than just the name, a little pop-up with a description would be great. Also, some of the characters need identification and explanation. Most kids won’t KNOW who Sherlock Holmes or the Beatles are without being told.
I’m still going with 4.5 stars for this app as a whole. It’s great (and even greater than it was before), but they haven’t quite crossed the 5-star threshold for me. Try it out for yourself with the free version (or better yet, download the full version for just $0.99 for the next month!). At this sale price it’s a don’t-miss!
