Learn to Read, Write and Spell Pro is an English language skills program which covers a huge amount of material, from learning the letters of the alphabet all the way through to reading and writing at a sixth grade level.
The English language is riddled with anomalies and is incredibly difficult to learn properly. Learn to Read, Write and Spell Pro is designed to make this learning easier by using a graphics-based presentation style.
If you'd like to download Learn to Read, Write and Spell (iPad only), there is a free version to try, and if you like what you see, go ahead and download the full version ($9.99).

This app is split into six sections:
Blending letters to form words
Reading Lessons
Writing Lessons
Spelling Skills
Language Skills
Dictionary Skills
Each section has multiple lessons teaching a new skill or letter, and each one becomes progressively more difficult. At the beginning of the program it is assumed that the student does not know the letters of the alphabet. The program then proceeds to teach all the skills that are needed to read on a sixth grade level.
Reading, spelling, dictionary skills and penmanship are practiced extensively throughout the program. Some of the language skills taught include suffixes, prefixes, the six syllable types, consonant digraphs and blends, diphthongs, singular and plural nouns, apostrophes and contractions, punctuation, exceptional words (words to be memorized), sentence and paragraph structure, and lots, lots more.
The program builds an association between symbols and sounds in the English language through self-paced repetition and utilizes the close association of visual, auditory and kinesthetic elements to help students improve their language skills.
So even though the Pro price may be daunting at $9.99, this app offers an enormous amount of content.
Give the free version a try if you'd like to get a feel for the app, or have a look at the video below for a detailed peek inside all parts of the app.

Eleanor Holland remembers being taught "running writing" at primary school, but if she tries to do it now it looks like a drunk elephant attempting to write with his tail. Smartappsforkids.com was paid a fee for this sponsored post.
