An evening spent with this charismatic robot, almost ALMOST made me consider going back to school.
Grab your iPad (the only device this app is available for), your tiny digging fanatic, and settle in for a trip around the world and back-(a couple of times) with this great app from developer GenevaMars.
(Emilie did an awesome full review of this app that you can read here)
Gameplay is pretty straightforward, with lots of great narration that leads your home’s cutest geologist through 3 worlds of play-Fossils, Minerals, and Dinosaur Bones. For the record, up until my first dig I totally thought fossils and dinosaur bones were the same thing. Leave it to some robots to teach me otherwise!
Digging, digging, and more digging happens in various locations around the world that you learner chooses for themselves. After that, it’s their job to even take their treasures back to the museum for display. There are all kinds of things to be found, so don’t worry about boredom setting in any time soon in this museum!
Narration, animation, sounds, and background music only add to the greatness of this adventure. If you’re looking for learning, dirt, and robots in one app then look no further! Give Zach and friends a new home on your iPad, pack your suitcase, and let the digging begin!

Rachel spends her days teaching kids to say words like “paleontologist” and “archeological” and loves it.
